Brakes
Gaetano
Oldani
The first racing-brake produced
by Gaetano Oldani
had a 230 mm. hub with a single cam brakeand, for its time, it was
very efficent. In a short time all the most famous English riders, Hailwood, Minter, Hartle
and McIntyre,
fitted Oldani brakes to their Nortons. The smallest model, the 200 mm. was
adopted for all the Mondial racing bikes, whether or sport or Gran Prix;
with the latter Oldani won the Word Chamionship for 125 and 250 classes il
1956 and 1957. Moto Morini
also adopted Oldani brake for its competition bikes: the large ones for the
Grand Prix 250 and the smaller ones for the 175
Settebello.

Daniele
Fontana
In 1964 Daniele Fontana decided to begin manifacturing it brakes and then
selling them not only to private bikers but also to other companies. Soon
its range came to include three excellent front brakes entirely made of
magnesium alloy (with cast-iron rings containing the braking "strip" cast-in)
and equipped with four shoes. The "large"
Fontana is used on the official Triumph and BSA three-cylinder of the 750 formula.
The "midsize" had an effective diameter of 210 mm. and was
designed for racing and sport bikes with engine displacement of 250/350 cc.
The "small" Fontana was used on the other hand for smasser racers like the Motobi 175, Morbidelli 125
and similar bikes.

Ceriani
The Ceriani brakes were produced in only one
diameter: 230 mm. both front and back. There were two versions of the front
brake - wide and narrow. The narrow was suited to medium capacity bykes and
was fitted as standard to the competition 250/350 Aermacchi Ala d'Oro; latre
the widersize was developed, wich different from the first in the size of
the shoes (and therefore of the braking area) and externally in the larger
cooling air intake. The larger moder was fitted originally only to the MV
three cylinders of Agostini, after they were regularly placed on sale. The Ceriani
drum brakes were the finest ever produced; they were resistent of fading,
highly efficent and free from problems of cracking of the cast iron inserts.
